CRICKET AT THE BASIN. A new order is to operate in local senior club cricket as from to-morrow, -when the larger stumps -will be brought into use. It has been claimed that the increased size of the wickets has proved, of benefit in brightening up the Kame, and the effect of the use of those stumps for the first time in local club cricket will lend addedinterest to the series of senior matches being commenced to-morrow. Another feature of these matches will be the first appearance of C. S. Dempster and Iv. C. James in match play at the Basin Reserve since their return fr.om England, -where Dempster gained rank as one of the world's best batsmen and James as one of the world's best wicket-keepers. Also figuring in play at the Basin Reserve will be many of the foremost claimants for places in Wellington's Plunket Shield tenm^ and their form, too, will be watched with keen interest, particularly as the first choice of this season's representatives is to be made next week for the Town v. Country match. Four senior teams will be engaged at the Basin, and these will include the unbeaten Kilbirnie team, which will be playing off its home ground for the first time this season. The talent for bright and interesting cricket will.be in good supply, the players who hare had representative experience including the following: Dempster. James, Lainason, Crook, Christophersen, Blundell, Hollings, Aircy, Duncan. Farsloe, Coltman (from Australia), Ronaldson. Ward, Hopburn. Whyte, and Cousins. A small charge is being made for admission to the ground.
