WHAT OF REFORMERS ?
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Commenting to-day on the- Hon. A. D. M'Leod's statement as to the' conditions under which he will be standing as a Eeformer for the Wairarapa seat, Mrl A. A. M'Lachian, Independent United candidate for Biccarton, said:— "It was characteristic of the arrogance which was displayed by Mr. M'Leod when a Minister that he should have matched himself against three United candidates in Canterbury. Why did he not stipulate for the withdrawal also of some of the following Reformers, who are going to the poll:—Messrs. Holdsworth and Clark (Auckland), Cameron (Dunedin), Todd (Otago Central), Vaile (Botorua), and Hargest (Mataura)? My candidature has nothing to do with the United Party organisation. I am standing as a Liberal, anxious to prevent the abandonment of Liberal principles in the Dominion. Nothing is more certain than that the Eeformers will consent to no policy that does not suit their book. They have already shown that intention, and I maintain that it is the absolute duty of true Liberals to contest the seats they have a good prospect of winning, provided their candidature does not involve the possibility of Labour success."
