A NEW REBEKAH LODGE INSTITUTED AT CARTERTON The first Rebekan Lodge in the Wai> rarapa ■ district of which womeu can be' come members, affiliated to the Indepeu» dent Order of Oddfellows, New Zealand, was opened on Saturday evening with fitting ceremonial. This lodge, to be known as .Rose o£ Carterton Kebekah Lodge, is the 74th in the Dominion and the ninth in the Wellington district. The lodge was formed as a result of the efforts of Bros. B. Swell, 1.G., G: Jaquliery, P.G., li. A. Gunn, P.D.D.G.M., and other prominent Oddfellows in the district. Prior to the institution of the new lodga 41 candidates were initiated in the Rebekah degree, at which Sister E. Jones and a staff of officers drawn from Wellington Rebekah lodges presided. The new lodge was then instituted iv accordance with the custom of the- Order, by a special deputy of the Grand Master. Bro. G. F. Kudkin, P.C.P., p.D.G.M., of Wellington, occupied this office, and had with him Bros. Il'. J. Jones, C.P., K. Tahiwi, P.G., A. Evans, P.G., and E. Peterson working in conjunction with Bro. W. E. Arcus, D.D.G.M.", of the Wairarapa district. The charter members of tha new lodge are Sisters S. Borman, L. M, Brown, A. Challis, C. Davies, E. A. Gunn e G. E. Sewell, and M. I. Thorby. The opening ceremonial for instruction waa conducted by Sister E. Jones and staff, after which Sister S. Borman, N.G. of the new lodge, and her officers, were installed by Sister J. Tahiwi, L.D.D.G.M., assisted by Sisters 0. Gordon, E. Maley, and I. B. Morrison, who are all past L.D.D.G.M.'s. Bro. G. Jaquliery, P.G., occupied the chair of the J.P.N.G. After the ceremony congratulatory addresses were made by Bro. Rudkin, who tendered the greetings of the Grand Master and Grand Lodge executive, and other visiting officers. The following gifts were made to tho rjew lodge during the evening:—Bible cushion from P.N.G. Association; Bible from Sister H. Watson: odes and music, Sister E. Jones; pedestal covers, Sister Tahiwi; and gavels, Sister A. Parry. It is anticipated that a further batch of candidates will be initiated at the nest meeting of the new lodgp.
