He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, and while there he qualified for membership oti the Eoyal College of Surgeons - (Ireland). About 30 years ago he came; to New Zealand and for five years he was assistant-medical superintendent of the mental hospital at Avondale, prior, to his appointment in 1910 as medical superintendent of the' Costley Home, now known as the Auckland Infirmary. For 21 years Dr. M'Kelyey. directed with signal; success "the affairs of this institution, and on brief occasions he also acted as medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital.
