A depression crossed the South Island yestorday and was very intense over the southern districts, but it has slnco lost intensity, while a shallow -yclone has been moving to the north of Cape Maria van Biemen. Although strong winds between north and west prevailed yesterday, only a scattered rainfall has been associated with these depressions, and practically no rain has fallen on the east coast and in the Cook Strait area. By this morning the winds had generally decreased In force, and they had become more variable, with southerlles ruling at many places. TO-DAY'S WEATHER.
