NEWTOWN CLUB
The- Newtown Croquet Club opened ils season on Thursday last under favourable circumstances. An enjoyable afternoon1 was spent. Those present included Miss Petcrsen (president) and Mrs. Underwood, Mrs. Martin, and Miss Mitchinson (vice-presidents). Mr, Phillips, president of tho Newtown Bowling Club, was introduced by the president, and at the conclusion of an interesting -and instructive address he drove tho first ball through the hoop and declared the green open. The club captain (Mrs. Stephenson) and hor committee took ighargo of the competitions, prizes being won as follows:— French, Miss Mitehinson; golf, Mrs. Le Strange; angles, Mrs. Henderson; ladr der, Mrs. Smith; ball on the peg, Mrs. Loasby; numbers, Mrs. Meek. In addition, Mrs. Hunt, Mrs. Mitchinson, Mrs. Eae, Mrs. Eemington, and Mrs. Sloano won conrpetition prizes. Tea was dispensed by Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Smith.
