LYALL BAY CLUB

The annual report and balance-sheet of the Lyall Bay, Surf and ,Life-saving Club, to be presented at the annual meeting this evening, states that the executive feels that there is occasion to congratulate the :lub on maintaining the standard of efficiency reflected in the previous season's workings. Attendances were well up to the average, and teams representing the club !n the .various.fixtures'were, well trained and gave commendable displays in every instance. A good watch was kept over the beach during week-ends and holidays, and assistance was_ promptly given to bathers when necessary.

Club tennis were successful in winning the Nelson Shield (New Zealand Surf and Life-saving Championship), Silver Reel Challenge Trophy (provincial championship), and the' Beltmen's Surf Championship, as well as occupying prominent positions in all other competitions. The following members represented AVcllington at New Zealand championships:—R. Polham, V. G. Ryan, H. Withers*. F. Mollier, B. J. M'lvor, and J. C. Blakely. The junior polo team came second in the junior pennant competitions. Mr, L. Dawkins put up a fine swim in the Annette Kellerman Cup race, finishing second, in that event, and Mr. F. G. Ryan fourth/

Life-saving classes were held regularly during the season, arid 22 awards were made by the Royal Life-saving Society.
