MH. COATES HOPEFUL

PRICES AT ROCK BOTTOM

An optimistic outlook in regard to the returns for the Dominion's primary produce was taken by the Minister in Charge of Unemployment (the Eight Hon. J. G-. Coates) in concluding his unemployment statement in the House of Representatives last night.

Mr. Coates said that prices had now fallen low and we might reasonably suspect that they had reached rockbottom. There were indeed good grounds for believing that in the light of events of the past few weeks, prices might now move upwards. Wo wore well entitled to bo hopeful. This was a time whon all sorts of useful work, tho repairing and painting of property, for instance —much of it in the nature of odd jobs—could be undertaken. It was a time, too, when well-chosen oxpendituro was wiser than saving. "To-day there is every good reason," ho added, "why mortgagees, be they State Department or private lenders, should give financial assistance to protect the property that is security for their loans. This is a sound business proposition."
