STANCHION REAPPEARS

An interesting entrant fot' the Masterton Handicap, also for the Wairaiapa County Cup at Carterton at the end of the month, is Stanchion, winner of the last Wellington Cup, who has beeu out of the news since racing at the Wairarapa Easter Meeting. As neither he nor any other of his stnblemates has been nominated for the Wellington or Canterbury meetings, it would seem that Mr. W. E. Bidwill is not going to send his team far afield this season.

Stanchion is a good racehorse and one of the most promising stayers in the Dominion, and it was raflier a surprise not to find him in the more important Spring handicaps. Last season he contested only seven races, find was unplaced only on the occasion he was left lengths at the post on the second day of the Wellington Cup Meeting. Even then he weighed in fourth. Hia two wins were in the Wellington Cup and in the President's Handicap, 0 furlongs and 80 yards, at Tauherenikuu, and his stake-earnings amounted to £140.1 It will ba remembered that he was put on the schooling list following the Wellington Meeting, but his name was removed shortly afterwards. In the two starts at Tauherenikaii fnibsuqucntly his behaviour at the bavrior was exemplary.
