WELLINGTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.

For the final concert of the 1931 season th« Wellington Symphony Orchestra under the distinguished conductorshlp of Mr. Leon d« Mauuy will present on Thursday, 15th October, a programme that is certain to b« extraordinarily popular. Among the lighter Items will be the StraUsis waltz, "Tales from th« Old Vienna Woods," Mazart's "Figaro" overture, and Tschalkovsky's "Polonaise" , from

"Eugcn Onegln." The most Important symphonic works will be Tschalkov«ky's "Fifth. Symphony" (In E Minor), and Mendelssohn's lovely "Piano Concerto in G Minor."' Th« soloist/ for this latter work will be Madams Evelyn de Mauny. The vocal number of th« evening is an aria from Gounod's opera, "Th« Queen of Sheba," and will be sung by MrsWilfred Andrews. The Tschaikovsky »ymphon.T) was, it will be remembered, introduced to New, Zealand audiences for the first time last year^ and Mr. de Mauny is repeating the work by general request. The concerto of the eveninc was Mendelssohn's first work in this form, and although there are a Humbert of supercilious people nowadays who metaphorically sniff a» Mendelssohn, there remains the fact that il Is still enormously popular; and it is Interest* ing to note that D'Albort, the famous pianist, recently starred it at a. performance with th# New York Symphony Orchestra. Patrons art advised to be seated by 7.50 p.m., as the performance will begin promptly, and - thereafter doors will be closed until the end of the first Hem.
