RE-MARRIAGES FORBIDDEN

Three proposed marriages in which either' the .bride or ; bridegroom had been granted a Reno, Nevada, divorce were stopped in London recently by Somerset House authorities (states the "Daily Mail").

This brought the total of romances shattered in this way during the previous few weeks to more than 20.

Discussing the prohibited marriages an official at Somerset House stated: "An idea seems to prevail that anyone can re-marry in this country with a foreign divorce decree. In some cases they can, but not with a U.S. State decree. In many of the instances where the marriage has been stopped the people have been British. Ono of them had obtained a decree abroad on grounds which would not be considered sufficient here. The other cases, were of Americans who thought they could stay here for 15 days and: remarry quietly. "Fibrn the number of' inquiries we have nad from friends of people who have obtained Rono divorces there must be many more coming hero with their decrees. When they are prpvented from remarrying here they go to France, only to find that a much longer residential qualification it required,"
