CAMP SCHEME OPPOSED

A meeting of the New Zealand Alliance of Labour, held yesterday afternoon, discussed the question of the camp schema put into operation by tho Unemployment Board. Reports were submitted from all over tho Dominion regarding these camps, and in every case dissatisfaction was expressed by these men, who are compelled to perform useful work at the rate of 2-ld per hour. The following resolution was carried:—

"That this meeting of tho council condemns the camp scheme of tho Unemployment Board—first, on the grounds that the rate of pay paid to tho workers was a disgrace to any country; secondly, that public bodies and private employers were benefiting by this scheme, and were not refunding the value of the work performed to tho Unemployment Fund-; and, third, that by a proper system of organisation tiic Unemployment Board could find profitable employment for those workers at trade union rates of pay which would be of benefit to the country and the men concerned."
