OBITUARY

MR. J. W. HARDLEY

Deep regret will be felt amongst^bowlcrs at the news of the death in Sydney to-day of Mr. J. W. Hardley, who fell ill while conducting the recent tour of the New Zealand bowling team to Queensland. Tho late Mr. Hardley, who was 70 years of age, was a membej; of the firm of Hardleys Ltd., Auckland, and was known in bowling circles from ono end of the Dominion to the other. He has been president of the New Zealand Bowling Association and has toured the United Kingdom and Australia at tho head of New Zealand bowling teams. He was of. a most genial personality, and was a very vigorous and breezy speaker, and his demise . moves from tho social side of bowls one who has always sought to promote good fellowship amongst bowlers, and whose advice on matters of administration was always valued highly. During the recent tour of the New Zealand bowlers to Australia Mr. Hardley contracted a cold in Sydney, which turned to pneumonia, and a few days ago advice was received that his condition was very low, but despite that, hopes wore entertained that he would recover. This, unfortunately, had proved not to be the case.
