OBITUARY

MR. A. B. FITCHETT

Mr. As))ton Buddie Fitchctt, an old Wellington settler, and well known by his long connection with Ohiro Farm, Brooklyn, died yesterday, aged 87 I years. The lato Mr. Fitchctt was born in Wellington in 1844. His parents came to New Zealand by the London in 1842. After receiving education at Toomath's School on the Terrace, Mr. Fitehett worked on his father's farm, and, in partnership with his brother, took over the farm on his father's death in 1875. The partnership was dissolved in 18S2, and Mr. A. B. Fitchett carried on the farm himself. Ho was a man of progressive ideas, and was one of tho first New Zealanders to use a cream separator, having imported one from Denmark in ISBO. In 1883 he was making ensilage with great success. In 18S5 he installed a digester and bone-crushing plant, to make artificial manure. Mr. Fitchett retired from the farm in 1880. The original part of the homestead, on what was Ohivo Farm, was built in 1856, all the timber was cut from the bush surrounding tho locality and hand sawn on the place where the house now stands. With the exception of fifteen months- spent in Kaihora as a young man, ho resided at the farm continuously until his death, and the farm is still carried on by his eldest sou. Mr. Fitchett is survived by two daughters—Miss H. L. Fitchett and Mrs. E. IT. Marriott; and two sons—Mr. Edward A. Fitchett and Mr. Ashley 13, Fitchett, both of Wellington. The funeral will leave the old residence, 50, Tanera cresceut, Brooklyn, at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon.
