SHOTS IN STRONGROOM

YOUNG MAN FOUND DEAD

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBOBNE, This Day. Lawrence Shacklock Evans, aged 21, a junior clerk employed by the Gisborne Borough Council, was found at 8.45 this morning lying on the floor of the office strong-room with a bullet wound in his head and the office revolver in his hand. The deceased arrived at the office at S o'clock, and appeared to bo cheerful. The assistant town clerk, Mr. W. Jenkins, after opening the strong-room, entered another room. A few moments later he heard a shot, which he thought was a tire bursting. A. few seconds afterwards another shot sounded. Mr. Jenkins then dashed into the strongroom, where he found Evans lying in a pool of blood. The deceased, a single man, had been in the council's employ for about two years.
