POWER OF FINANCE
BLOW TO DEMOCRACY
LABOUR ATTITUDE
(Received 26th August, 10 a.m.)
LONDON, 25th August. The "Daily Herald," . commenting on the news from New York, asks where is the patriotism in allowing the Federal Beserve Bank of New York to dictate, as a condition of further credit for the Bank of England, that the British unemployment benefits should be reduced. "The news will cause shock and alarm, as it amounts to the acceptance of the dictatorship of international finance, and the apotheosis of the power of finance is the severest possible blow to democratic government.
"Labour will reject any scheme involving new privations for the unemployed. Mr. MaeDonald is walking the path of political suicide."
