In these three sentences the old Unemployment Board sums up a comprehensive survey of its activities in a report tabled in the House of Bepresentatives yesterday. "Up to the present," says the report, ." the need for coping "with the immediate suitation has been paramount; but the board has never lost sight of the fact that it is eminently desirable that the work of the unemployed should, as far as possible, be made the means of increasing production."
"The totally inadequate funds at the disposal of this board have made it impossible'to put into operation the hugcr schemes that were: contemplated by the r ,Unemploynyjnt Committee in its lTport, but the board-has taken consid-erable-steps, to enable this to be done as Koon as-funds become available, and Uviye.s-: on jecord a number of recdmmpndu.tions' for the future guidance of the .incoming board."
