SCHOLARS' EXAMINATION The examiners have completed Iheir big Uek of examining S2O papers written by scholars from 63 schools connected with the Wellington Sunday School Union. There were four different courses for the schools to choose1 from, and each course'was divided into five grade?, so that,the.-task was by no means a simple one."''The-"union is making'an effort to induce . schools to drop the American course and confine themselves to the two Australasian and the British courses. .For the first time two schools on the union's extension list entered for the-ex-amination,and it will be noted that these, t.be West, Taratahi and Opaki schools, have: both' done well. Miss Jean A. Thompson, a teacher in the West Tava-tahi-Scbool, sat for the teachers' examina-tion-and gained 75 per cent, of marks, which entitles her to a teachers' diploma. Of'those competing, 248 gained the 80 per cent, or more of marks, which entitles them to a. prize. 328 gained second-class certificates, and 173 third-class certificates, while 71 failed to gain the 40 per cent, necessary for a pass. The■ examiners were: Mrs. R. Wood, M;A., Mrs. T. H. Gill, Mrs. N. F. Callam, MissM. C. Clachan, M.A., Mr. T. H. Gill, M.A., LL.B., and Mr. 11. D. Groc.ott. The prizes will be presented .at the annual rally to be held in the Town Hall on ■•'9th October. Mr. and Mrs. W. F,. Howe will, as usual, train the scholars for the. musical part of the programme. -FIRST PRIZE WINNERS. Grade 11. (16 years and under 20).— Arthur J.
