: -An 'opiiion that ,-firo plugs, in sthe city should, have some distinguishing: ma'rki such as a white circle or'some other design, stencilled around them,' was expressed, by. members ■at to-dayV meeting of the, Wellington Fire Board. :;The question arose:-out of a letter received from the Town Clerk, stating: that the Bylaws Committee desired to: point out that, as it-had been the prae-' tice of the City Council to indicate the position of the. hydrants in the streets by fixing a notice <m adjacent builds ings, there was no> duty on.-.the council' to take any action iv the matter. . ; .-.-.•'■ . : The superintendent (Mr., J. Creeke) said that some ;niafk should. be painted or, stencilled-ground;,the plugs to show motorists where they were. The chairman (Mr/N.'Nelson): "This danger arises, however. Tfi'e City Council will not take a share in the cost, and1 if the Fire Board paints a white■ circle around them some future City Council might say they don't like the design and-want something else. The board will- have' to have.the permission of ..the City Council to esirry the proposal out." :'■■■..<■' Mr. S. S. Dean: "The idea is to distinguish the plugs for the benefit of the motorists, and so prevent them from parking their cars over them." Superintendent Creeke: ',' Couldn 't we go fifty-fifty with the City Council?" . . . ' ; \ . The ahairmnn: "They won't go anything at all." , After further discussion it was decided' that the superintendent should submit proposals ,to the City Engineer for consideration. :
