CANTERBURY'S CHALLENGE

Wellington's second Banfurly Shield engagement of the season is to take place at Athletic Park to-morrow, when the representatives of the province will meet tho Canterbury team, which is on its way back to Christchurch after its North Island tour. Provided the weather is of the right order, tho game should provide a good measure of enter raining football. Apart from the keen interest being taken in the match as a contest for the Ranfurly Shield, there will be an opportunity of seeing iv action again a number of tho players who took part in. the inter-Island game last week, some of whom are in the running for inclusion. in: the New Zealand team to meet the Australian tourists in the Test match ,at Auckland in September. ■ It is interesting •to note that Canterhury. has previously challenged Wellington for the Shield four times. In 1904 at Athletic Park Wellington won by six points to three; in 1919 at Athletic Park, by 21 points to S; in the same year at Christehurch by 23 points to.9,.and in 1920 at.Athletic Park by 15 points to 3

Ball (Hutt), and J. D. Mackay (University), all of whom are on the.injured list. There has been.considerable speculation as to who .would'fill the vacancies since it was announced that the backs named were unavailable. -It w.as : expected that^ Lilburne would be asked to take Pollock's . place at f ulMiack, while Fuller's place-kicking ability made his claims for inclusion, very strong.
