REPORT TO HOUSE
NEW BOARD'S POLICY
A comprehensive report prepared by the old Unemployment Board which should be of considerable value to the newly-appointed body will be presented in the House of Eopresentatives next week by the Minister of Labour (tho Hon. S. G. Smjth). This information was imparted to the House by the Minister last night in reply to an interjection.
An early announcement is expected as to the policy to bo pursued by the new Unemployment Board, which has had several sittings since its appointment three weeks ago. Eumours are current that the board proposes to substitute a now scheme for the No. 5 scheme, under which the bulk of the unemployed are receiving assistance, and that an endeavour is being made to institute a scheme of productive works, but no information is available in official quarters-at present to substantiate this. ■"■.'.-:•■ -. ■■':■:: .:.' ,■■•-■'
