"We note with pleasure your desire to enter into direct personal negotia; tions w;ith the least possible delay/and shall take- up the question of time and place as soon as it suits, the convenience of the New Zealand-Government after the General Election,"the Prime Minister, Mr. R. Briefly, this summarises the -presentstate of the trade-relation negotiations between Canada and New Zealand. l Referring to butter, Mr. Bennett said: "Our policy is to foster this natural, essential industry, and we anticipate that, normally;. Canadian producers will supply the home market. ; "However, it is. probable1; that, the winter shortages' will recur, and, in any case, so far as imports, are necessary, it is our ■ desire to give ■ preference to supplies from the reciprocating Dominions." ■ . . .
