THAT EXTRA THREEPENCE

The Prime Minister, the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes, promised Canterbury members of Parliament and representatives of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce who formed a deputation which waited on him on Friday that he would allow a free vote of the House on the question of increasing the protection to be given to wheatgrowers next season to raise the price to farmers from 4s 6d a, bushel to 4s 9d (states a Cluistchurch paper). The deputation was introduced by the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr. D. G. Sullivan, M.P. He had suggested that before commencing a campaign of public meetings it might bo worth while again to present the facts to the Prime Minister. Mr. Forbes stated that although he had no intention of altering the arrangements already made, he had no objection, to leaving the matter of the threepence additional -protection for next season to the free judgment of the House.
