JUTE GOODS MARKET.
Hoare, Miller, and Co., Ltd., of Calcutta, in a report just received, report that the failure of the members.of the Jute Mills Association to agree to further curtailment, although recommended by the committee, .caused heavy selling by local operators, and also by one ■of the native mills, for all deliveries up to March nest. "Prices of heavy goods," the report states, declined to a point which, on the current price of jute, showed a loss to manufacturers of 6% d per dozen on cornsacks. At the following meeting of the committee, which was held on 23rd June, the question of working hours was again brought up, and a resolution was passed recommending that the present working hours should be carried on indefinitely, or until stocks were reduced.
