Speaking at the Wellington Hospital Board's meeting on Thursday, Mr. Georga Pethcrick, chairman of the Social Welfare Committee, commented on the J7>crease in the unemployment cases of distress for the month of June as con* pared with the previous month. . Mrs. M'Vicar remarked that a great , amount of good work in relieving distress had been done quietly. The various voluntary organisations which, had assisted in the work deserved tha most hearty thanks. Mr. W. Colt> bore testimony to the excellent service rendered by tho Lower Hutt Distress Committee. Mrs. Preston suggested that it would be helpful if portions, of the Town Belt and other vacant land, were utilised for growing vegetables for needy cases. Mr. A. J. M'Curdy drew attention, to the excellent work done in th» Upper Hutt district.
