FURTHER EXTENSION
SPECIAL HAWKES BAY
PROPOSAL
A proposal for the extension of the rent restriction law, which is due to expire on Ist August, has been introduced in the House of by the Minister of Labour (the Hon. S. Cf. Smith). The Bill re-enacts the main provision of the Bent Eestriction Extension Act of 1930 for a further twelve months. Special provision is proposed as to the application of the rent restriction legislation to dwelling-houses in the Hawkes Bay earthquake area. Tenants of dwelling-houses,.or flats, which have been let since the date of the earthquake at not more than &2 a week may apply to a Magistrate for an order restricting the raising of the rent. No order made by a Magistrate will be made retrospective to any date prior to 3rd February, 1931.
