SENIOR B

ST. PAT'S AGAIN VICTORIOUS.

St. Patrick's College Old Boys definitely asserted their superiority in the senior B division by defeating Johnsonville for the second time on the home ground by 13 to nil. Play was mostly confined to the forwards, and was for the most part of a spectacular nature, although inclined, to be ragged at times. St. Pat's were as strong on defence as they were on attack, and it was largely due to their ability to stop solid rushes, that they won the game without having their line crossed. Dennehy, the Old Boys' wing-forward, played an excellent game, and was ably supported by Johns and Jones. Honours in the back line went to Hart and P. O'Connor, who were responsible for some fine passing movements. Smith and Cathcart were always to the fore in the Johnsonville pack, which as a whole worked vex'y well, but back movements were spoiled to some extent by too much solo work. St. Pat's lost no time in attacking, and with the advantage of wind and sun, had Johnsonville defending in their own territory. A mis-kick by Mason let them through to the Johnsonville line, but a short passing movement by Chancy and Money cleared to halfway. Once more Old Boys had the villagers defending on their own line until an obstruction by Goodson relieved. A spectacular breakaway by P. M'Carthy at halfway left Johnsonville standing. The three-quarter line handled before Goodson went over well put for an excellent try. Hepburn converted with a good kick. St. Pat's 5, Johnsonville 0. Johnsonville then came away to Old Boys' twenty-five, with Cathcart at the head of the attack. Solid packing by Old Boys slowly drove the villagers back until they were once more defending their line. Bryant cleared, and for a time Johnsonville .dominated play, the forwards giving a fine showing. At length Phillips received from the loose and sent the backs away to midfieldi but! Parsloe stopped the movement with a fine tackle. Further pressure took play to the Johnsonville line, where a short kick from an infringement let Dennehy through to score. Hepburn converted. 10-0, and at the interval the score was unchanged. With the advantage of a rising wind in the second spell Johnsonville went to the attack, having St. Pat's penned on their owji line until a force-down relieved. In a moment St. Pat's took play to Johrisonville's line, and only solid defence prevented a score. A smart movement initiated by Chancy let the Johnsonville backs away to halfway, where Parsloe received an injury which necessitated his replacement by Stanbridge. 3?or the next fivo minutes Johnsonville had St. Pat's bustled and battled continuously on their line. An infringement, gave Trenchard the opportunity to open Johnsonville's account, but the kick went wide. St. Pat's backs were sent away by Hart, and they went into Johnsonville's twenty-five before the movement was checked. From a scrum on the village line Hart received and forced his way across to score the final points of the day. The kick failed. St. Pat's 13, Johnsonville 0. For the remainder of the spell both teams played with energy, with Johnsonville slightly superior on attack. Mr. L. S. Leith was the referee.
