SATURDAY'S RACES

IN TOWN AND AT PETONE

Although the numerical strength of the club is not as great as it ia hoped to make it, there is a line type of rider in the ranks of the Port Nicholson Cycling Club, affiliated to the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. 'Members are showing great keenness, and the club has among its oflieials and supporters men who are eager to help along the riders. The club held another road race from the Petono. Rowing Club- shed on Saturday afternoon to Stokes Valley and back, the distance covered bein^ 23 miles. There were eleven starters, and in spite of the fact that a side wind was experienced throughout, good times w.ere registered. Results were as follows:— L. W. Sowerby (Smin), 59min 54sec .. 1 F. Hamel (Dmin), 61min 32sec .-. 2 B. R. Poulton (Gmin), S9rain 57s>ec 3 P. Jiyton (Grain), 59min.67 l-ssee 4 Fastest times: F. Christensen (scr), '45 mill 2Ssec, 1; P. N. Robinson (scr), 45 mm 28 l-ssec, 2; G. Piunti (lmin losee), (Jsmin 45s.ee, 3. Over the same course a fortnight ago the fastest time registered- waa GOmin 22 sec. Sowerby rode a very fine race, having to make his own pace for the greater part of the distance The limit rider, Millner, rode well, but lost his chance by taking a wrong road. Robinson and Christensen, the scratch riders, picked up 25se: on the outward run on Piunti, and Johnston, and held that advantage for the remainder of the distance. GRUELLING CONTEST. The Port Nicholson Club (N.Z.U.C) held a 30% miles* race round the Breaker Bay course. R. Evans, with a handicap of Smin, finished first, and L. Roberts (scr.), ■ who finished fifth, made fastest time. ..'
