A great deal of public attention has Been recently drawn ,by the Government and the newspapers to the question of the extraction of oil from coal," said Sir David Llewellyn at the meeting of the Welsh Associated Collieries, Ltd., London, held ]f)th Ma;. "I am afraid that they have partially succeeded in making the public believe that therein lies the secret of the revival of the coal trade. In my opinion this is entirely fallacious and misleading. Millions of public money have been lost during the past twenty years -in the endeavour to distil coal by low-temperature fcarbonisafcion methods, with no practical results of • any kind." ' .- :
