APPOINTMENT OF PRINCIPAL

The Board of Governors of the Wellington Technical College have appointed Mr. ,B. R. Ridling, M.A. Camb., to the position of principal, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. J. H. Howell. :

Mr. Ridling was educated atf the. Auckland' Grammar School, and was for. some'years'before the war engaged in tho primary schools' service. From 1915 to 1919 Mr.' RidKng was engaged in military' service, ■ leaving New Zealand asadjutant of the transport, and subsequently^ after being wounded, in France, he was assistant adjutant to the reserve unit of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. At the cessatjon.of hostilities Mr. Ridling wa3 placed in charge of the N.Z.E.F. education scheme at Brockton Camp, England, and after the closing of this camp was transferred to Codford and organised the education system there. From 1919 to 1922 Mr. Ridling was in residence, at Queen's College, Cambridge, where he took'honours in the natural science tripos, and took the diploma in agriculture with distinction, acting as demonstrator in human and animal physiology, and sub-sequently-spending several months in Belgium and Holland engaged in research work into the sugar beet industry. 8 ..■■'■ On returning to New Zealand in 1923, Mr. Ridling acted as supervisor of all manual and technical work, including agriculture, under the Taranaki Education Board, until in 1930 he was appointed inspector of manual and technical schools by the.
