RATEPAYERS' ASSESSOR
ELECTION AT 9.30 A.M,
A public. meeting of ratepayers will be held in the Town' Hall to-morrow morning, at half-past 9, to elect tho ratepayers' assessor for the Assessment Court to deal'with objections to valuations iirWellington. A;paragraph published yesterday erroneously stated that the meeting was'to be held to-day.
The candidates are:—-Mr. B. Bold, for hi any: years a land purchaso officer in the Government servico; Mr. G. Ilalliday, for many years a Government valuer and land purchase officer; Mr. T. B. Dwan, a former assessor on the City ■Assessment Court.
Tho electioiris unusual in that under tho Valuations Act tho voting is not continued throughout the day, as in ordinary elections, but is confined to those who are qualified and who a»' actually, present at the meeting. Voting, is confined to ratepayers whose names appear on tlio. valuation roll as supplied to the local authority, and tho ratepayer must possess the qualification in'his Own right',-that- is; wives (or husbands) of actual ratepayers arc not permitted to vote, as iii ordinary elections.
Tho election is conducted with ballot papers, but when all presint have recorded their votes'the chairman may declare the voting closed; hence the requirement that intending voters should attend at 9.30 a.m.
