CONFERENCE OF WOMEN
SECOND DAY'S BUSINESS
The conference of' the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was continued this morning, when a good deal of business- was transacted. It was decided that the "wool campaign" should be carried on throughout the whole Dominion, • and plans were made accordingly. , - The remit moved by Mrs; Simpson and seconded by Mrs. Drake ;to the effect that the 6d. levy for executive members' travelling expenses had been a mistake and should be rescinded, was carried. . . ■■'■•■'■• The remit that " monies given to branches for community work, where not specially specified for local branches, should be ■ passed, into the funds:: of the Dominion Executive," was carried. Another remit concerned the election of officials,. and was to the effect that any person who, is . eligible for-full membership of the division, is. eligible *to hold the office of Dominion president. This was,carried. It was moved that associate town members should not be eligible for holding office, excejrt. that of secretary and treasurer, but,that these should have, the privilege, of voting. This-also was carried. A resolution rescinded was that relating to "Mothers' Welfare Week,"j this having been passed by the. previous conference. : ...■■. . ,<
It was decided that the two bush, nurses and housekeeping auxiliary advisory members (appointed by conference),, and a representative ,of the Book Clnb, should have, more definite representation on the Advisory: Board. An important change was made in charging, as follows: That the words, "The scale of charges is 10s per day, if employed'by the day, and from 21s ,to 30s per week,", be deleted from application forms and rule books, and the words "Fees on Application" substituted. This was discussed andcarried. Mrs C. C. Jackson : was again elected as Dominion president of the division amid much enthusiasm, and-the singing of "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow." Tho Dominion vice-presidents elected were Mesdames "Walker, Wilson, and Wickham, for: the North Island, and Mesdames Drake, Niederer, and Hall for the South. Mrs. Simpson was reelected as Dominion treasurer.. .
It was re-affirmed that the W.D.F.U. be absolutely non-political, : nonsectarian, and take no part in; controversial questions. It ■ was also': decided to consider the question.of a new motto during conference. _', .•'■■-'
