(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
OAMARU, 28th June,
AVhen Kdgar John Jamieson, aged 22, was found dead outside his hut at tho AVaitaki hydro-electric works on Thursday morning it was thought that death was tho result of heart failure.
At the inquest yesterday a doctor gave evidence that death was the result of haemorrhage of the brain due to a blow on the head. AVitness could not give any indication as to the-type of blow. A verdict was returned in accordance with tho evidence.
Rumours have been rife at the works regarding Jamieson's death, and, acting upon the instructions of district police headquarters at Timaru, Sergeant Hall and a plainelothes constable left for the works this morning. The deceased was an amateur boxer, and it is thought that he might have received a blow during a recent bout. When the body was found outside the hut it was frozen stiff, death having occurred some hours previously.
On the return of the police officers late this afternoon it was learned that exhaustive inquiries had failed to reveal anything tc justify further action, it being tsiSviu as conclusive that tho injury reeeCved through a friendly boxing bout hai been tho cause of death. Rumours were probed fully without avail.
