COMPARATIVE QUIET
ISOLATED INCIDENTS
NO RESULTS AS YET
MADRID, 28th June.
Despite fears that anything might happen, the elections passed off comparatively quietly. The most serious incident was at Barcelona, where two electors were shot dead.
Strong forces of the police and Civil Guard patrolled ■ the streets. Priests, who tho mob alleged were trying to buy votes for Catholic candidates in the vestibule of a church in Madrid narrowly escaped lynching. Several were injured in rioting at Malaga. Tho prompt nipping of tho bud of tho Air Force rebellion undoubtedly prevented serious bloodshed. It is expected that it will be twentyfour or thirty-six hours before tho national results are tabulated.
