Xjr the final of the amateur golf championship of New South Wales, J. Farrier defeatod E. L.. Apperly, the title-holder, one up.

Furrier, who is aged only sixteen, stands 6 feet 2 inches and weighs 14 stone. Ho is regarded as a phenomenal golfer, as already ho has beaten many first-class players in local competitions. He resides at Manly, where he holds tho local championship. Both Apperly and Ferrior played magnificent and sporting golf, and the match was fought to the end. Ferrier was dormie 3, Apperly won the thirty-fourth and thirty-fifth, but the last was halved.

The crowd was the largest on record, nearly 7000 being present. The loser has been amateur champion of the State five times.

Ferrior's coolness and gameness woro remarkable, considering his extreme youth. There was a thrill at every hole. Apperly took seven at the eleventh hole in the afternoon, an expensive weakness.

He ran a forty-foot putt and missed the hole by only two inches. Ferrier had a groat drive at the last hole, and won the title by 1 tip, causing a great sensation.
