Petone were at a disadvantage for • part •of the game through being, a man short. - The C^ty-Newtown B match had scarcely started before a passing bout, in which M'Kenzie, Leggatt, and .Merson .figured, sent Merson-over for/a try for City. Leggatt converted. A solo effort by Merson, whose pace carried Mm past the- defence, produced another try- for City. Leggatt failed to convert it; Newtown then took a turn on attack, but were driven back, and another passing bout by'the' ..City backs sent Leggatt over. Half-time was called with City leading 11-0. In the second spell City played right over the opposition, Newtown being unable to cope with the opposing backs, who did practically as they wished. Additional tries were scored by Leggatt, Darcie, Rush, and Merson, Leggatt and M. Rankin converting one each. Mr. Bartlett was the referee. ■

In the second spell tries were scored for Newtown by Fraser (2), Noot, and Holmes, Noot converting one. M'Lean" and M'Caskell.scored for Petone, M'Caskell converting one. The final score was: Newtown A, 28; Petone, 13.
