Though the greens were excellent, heavy rain had made the fairways heavy, ami most of the1 bunkers and hollows were full of water. Under the circumstances the golf was very good, as a stiff breeze was added to the course troubles. J. H. Drake, through the development of an apparently incurable hook, did not do himself justice in his match with A. D._S. X»uncan. Drake hooked out of bounds at the first, but secured a half in 5, •Duncan, not being as sure with his mashie as usual. Duncan took the next in 4, but Drake sank a fifteen-footer for a 2 at the third. The next two were halved in 4's, Duncan sinking an eighteen-footer at the fifth, where Drake was lying beside the hole in 3. Duncan, with a magnificent iron shot, lay sis feet from the cup in 2-at the sixth, while Drake's hook put him in the rough, and Duncan, taking two putts, was 1 up. The next was halved in s's. Duncan won the eighth in 5, Drake finding the waterfilled bunker with a long, second, and, with a better tee shot, Duncan took the ninth in;3,.and stood 3 up, having gone out in 37. Drake hooked a tremendous ball out of bounds, level with, the:bunker, at the tenth, and Duncan was 4 up, going on to-win 6 and 5. Duncan's iron shots and

approaches were uncannily faultless, and his approach putts left him -little to do. ■'. WHYTE'S 74.
