BERHAMPORE OUTPLAYED.

Eastbourne were too' good for Berhamtiore on Saturday and .the city team was beaten by 24 points to 6. Particularly m the backs did Eastbourne outclass their opponents and the speed and the dash of the Eastbourne rearguard were too much for the hard-working but slower Berhampore players; Fine hooking by Mollier and Charles gave Berhampore plenty of the ball in the first half, but the backs could do little with it. The Blue forwards were better than the i opposing pack in tins period, but after.half-time there was little between the two" sets of forwards.

The teams were:—, . . Eastbourne.—Clarke; Dinmss, Aimstrong, Fuller; Foley, Fleming; Coman; Price- Drumniond, Gibbons, Reid, bleep, J. Dellabarea, Corlett, N. Dellabarca. • Berhampore.—Brettis; Gordon, Ivnutson, Lang; Diamond.Goff; Macaulny;, Glenme; Mollier, ■ Charles, Gair, Cauicron, .Miller, Seymour^ Powell. A few minutes after the start the liastbourne forwards came down the.neld in.a loose rush. Comah set his backs going near the line. The ball went •to ■ Dinniss who -crossed weU out. Fuller missed with the kick • The Berhampore '< forwards battled hard' after this reverse;:and kept-. Eas>. bourne on the defensive for a time. Laug had an unsuccessful attempt at a pot and then clever in-and-out passing ended with Gordon going over for a neat try. me kick missed. 3-3. The Blue forwards were all over Eastbourne in the ensuing play, but although they'pressed hard they could ■not score. Another loose rush by Eastbourne changed the venue of play, and in a scramble on the line Drummond touched down. Fuller was again unsuccessful. Bad backing up "let Eastbourne • through for their next try,-J.: Dellabarca being the scorer'and Coman converting. Clarke, Eastbourne's full-back, who had been kicked on'the head just previously, collapsed at this'stage, and had to be taken to the Hospital. Butterworth replaced him, J. Dellabarca dropping into the backs. Berhampore made ground after this, and from a scrum the ball went to Knutson, who cut in and scored. The kick failed: 11-6. In the second half no sooner had the ball been kicked off than J. Dellabarca, playing at five-eighth, made a great opening to start a movement which Gibbons, successfully finished off. Fuller converted. 16-6. Eastbourne had taken a new lease oi life now and the backs were throwing, the ball about. J. Dellabarca, who was the best player on the.ground, was soon prominent again when he' brilliantly broke through the defence and scored a fine try; Coman converted. He added the next three points and the last score—from a penalty Mr. T. A. Fletcher was the referee.
