A CHARMING EVENING

MISS BEERE'S RECITAL

Aitistic dancing and aitibtic frock ing sum up in a lew •» jicls tho leading impressions of tho dance recital given by Miss Kslellc Dceie, who piescntcd to tho admiring gaze of a good audience a group of her pupils from tho Hill street studio at the Concert Chamber on Saturday night. The ages of theso pupils ranged from four years to eaily adolescence. One and all chaimed those present, and it was cvidont that Miss Beere has several more students who will "make their mark" in the dancing world if they continue their work on as good lines as at present. The evening began with some Hungarian Dances (Brahms) by Prue Lewis (violin) and Ormi Reid'(piano), these young ladies playing delightfully and heading the second part of the pro gramme with another good number. Then came some excellent skipping work by Roma Elsmore, followed by "First Steps" from a group of about "four to six-year-olds" in little blouses and pants, who one and all charmed tho audience with their joyous yet earnest attention to their steps and tho form of the dance. The solo items included dances by Yvonne Fisher, Peggy Welch, Pamela Bcauchamp, Robin Johan&cn, Dorothy Tate, Pat M'Namara, Patricia Reade, Molly Cook, and Miss Joan 'Beore gave by request a "Spanish Dance" which was enthusiastically encored. There were some very charming duos by B. M'Eldowney and B. Johansen, Elaino Duncan and Colleen Walling, and Dorothy Tate and Peggy Welch. The team work in "May Day Pastorale," the "Group of Natural Movement Dances," the "Forest Fire," tho "Old Musical Box," and "Jota" was in each case capital, the young ones having been shown tha necessity of acting the parts given to them, as well as attending to the stops, making a thoroughly artistic ensemble in each case. Among others who took part were Petal Bailey, Patricia Holmes, Colleen Walling, Alison Harte, Bobby Greig, Sonia Jacobsen, Gloria Whiteaere, Sylvia Fisher, Alison Andrews, Dorothy Bennett, Barbara Jerron, Betty Tosinan, Maida Solomon, Eva Bennett, Elaine Dunean, Shirley Bohan, Nancy Gillespie, Pam Ashbolt, Adrienne Beere, Pat Smith, June Roths-, child, Joan Craig, Patsy Ashbolt, Joan Noil, Cara Aldridge, Nan Welch, Molly Robertson, Pcggyt Bothamley, Judith Allen, . Pam Beauohainp, Cora Duncan, "Anita. Reid," Nona Solomon, Marion Heenan, Pat Lower, Mary Harding, Alison Burd, Patricia Reade, Heather M'lver, April Hayman, Pat Furlong, Yvonno Fisher, Eleanor Whiteaere. Where all did so well it might bo invidious to particu larise, but Miss Beere and Miss Joan Beere can bo heartily congratulated on a most artistic recital, tho_ dressing of which was wonderful in its perfection, the -.colour scheme iv each case not showing a jariing nple anywhere. It was complete and dainty to a degree. The dresses were designed by MissCs Beere, and the dances arranged and taught by the iame ladies. The school accompanist was Miss Irene Russell, the wardrobe, mistress Miss Rita Shaddock, and tho radio, which accompanied some of the dances, was kindly lent by Kirkealio and Stains. Special mention might be given to thn scena "Forest Fire," as it was a "new doparturo" in Wellington, and the representation of trees, wind, and smoke was capitally done. It is to be hoped that the programme will be presented again for the benefit of a larger audience in a bigger hall. Many gifts of bouquets were handed to Miss Joan Beere by some of the young soloists, and the audience signified its - approval by hearty applause in tho encoring of, several numbers.
