PETONE WINS.

Petone bpat W.Y.M.I. by 3 goals to 1 at Petone Recreation Ground on Saturday, but the goal which put matters beyond doubt was not scored until the very last, minute of the game when Campbell ,beat the Y.M. keeper. It was a dull match for the most part, and the rearranged Petone team did not seem to be able to get going for long periods. The' teams were:—

, Petone: M'Vean; Brown, Holmeg; Boe, Campbell, Hnines; Baistow, Watson; Hanlon, Cio^s, Ciaig. W.Y.M.I: Tayloi; Trott. M'Giir; Harrison, Dunnachie, Beaslev; T. Rabbitt, Telford, W. Rabbitt, Minifie, Hodder. ■ Petone wen the toss and had what advantage theie i\as to be found in a wind practically across the field. Leslie was resting after a knee injury, and it was soon obvious that the playing of Hanlon in his place was not going to help Petone. The taam seemed to lack fire m this spell, and though they worked in close a number of limes they were rarely dangerous, save once when a shot by Cross hit the bar a resounding smack and the ball came back to Watson, who put it too high. Y.M. More placing Mith raie dash, and the forwards tv eie often ■atta'elcingi Hanison and Dunnachie going stiongly and keeping the forward hnc well supported. The game ie* mained scoreless, however,■;■ and just before tho spell there was a peculiar incident ■when a Petone rush broke down with the ball hilling the referee, 'Mr. N. Brian. Ho was standing neat"the line close'to the goal and Harrison, thinking that the ball had passed the line, bent down and picked it up. A penalty was given against him, but'Baistow, either got the ball on the- side of his foot or else 'did ■' not try to put it through, for it flew very wide.

■In the second half things were different. Petoue moved Holmes up to centre-for-ward, and Halilon dropped back to fullback. In ten minutes Iho new tactics leaped two goals. Inside a coupler' of minutes Cross received the ball at his feet from nice work on the right wing, and goaled from light in front of the posts, and Y.M. answered with some pretty play which ended in W. Rabbitt' equalising. Petone came back and from a coiner Campbell headed through fiom Craig's perfect : kick. Petone 2, W.YJO. I. Petone 'continued to raid the goal, and Taylor performed some magnificent work between the sticks, including the stopping of a'penalty tnkeu~by Craig. Taylor was everywhere for a while, and, though Craig, who was going well, worked past him once after beating two men, the referee did not allow a fccoie. M'Girr and Trott were going great things in defenre and the game ■was very lively. Nevertheless, Petone now had the match in hand, and though Y.M. forced a couple of corners nothing came of them. Just before tho close of the match Campbell scored again, and a the whistle went Tilth the1 score, Petone 3. W.Y.M.I. 1. - The referee was Mr. 3ST. Brian.-
