PRICE OF BREAD
QUESTIONS IN THE HOUSE
Notice of three questions-relating to wheat duties and the prices .of flour and bread was given in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon.
Mr. C. A. Wilkinson (Independent, Egmont) stated his intention of asking the Prime Minister whether tho Government intended to adhere to the scale of duties published in the Press a few days ago; whether it was true that wheat could not be landed in the Dominion at less than 63 5d per bushel; and whether the Government had, based its calculations on- the present depreciated currency of Australia.-
The Rev. C Carr (Labour, Timaru) asked whether the Government would set up a committee of experts to fix tho price of bread on the basis of a payment of. 4s 9d per bushel to the farmer for wheat.
Mr. J. A. Young (Reform,, Hamilton) is to ask the Prime Minister whether, in view of tho fact that there are 40,000 men out of work, tho Government will tako immediate steps to reduce the high price ruling for bread in the Dominion.
