STOLEN MILK
THIRSTY TAXI-DRIVERS
The quenching of an early morning thirst with.milk -taken from; a-.;'City Council milk "."dump"1 led-'to-" the- ap.pearaji.ee of three taxi-drivers—Clifford Charles Bormottej Bertram.'Charles Gindors, ana Stanley Charles Selraltz—before Mr. E. Eago, 5.M.,. in the Magistrate's Court to-day. Each, pleaded guilty.to a charge of: theft of.a bottle of m'iik valued, at Is 2-Jd. : -. Sub-Inspector Lopdell said that the accused wore taxi-drivers, all using one stand. From one of the milk "dumps' 5 in, the city milk had been missing on a number of mornings, and a watch was kept. "'On loth May Bonnette was detected taking a bottle of milk,., and on 31st May Ginders took one,-and on 2nd June Schultz stole another. The accused, it appeared, took the milk to the- taxi-stand and drank it. While the police had evidence of only one bottle being stolen in each case, the significant fact was that milk had ben repeatedly missing before the accused had been detected, and none had been missing since. ■ .' Appearing for the accused, Mr. A. Mazengarb said that, although it had been suggested that there had been concerted efforts'-on the part of the accused, his instructions were to the- contrary. Each had taken, the milk on his own individual initiative, and1 this was borne out by the fact that two days after Ginclers had been caught Schultz had gone to the "dump" and taken a bottle. "To a taxi-driver working all night a drink of milk early in the.morn-. ing would be something of a. trpat," snid Mr-.- Mazcngarb, "and the fact tli.it the milk was left .unguarded would leave him open to temptation."-
. The Magistrate, lined each of the accused &1, in .default■'seven days', imprisonment-. They "wore allowed a. week in. which, to- Sad the moiicy, . •' ,
