STRIKERS STONE POLICE
TROOPS FORM CORDON
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, 13th June. Advice from Roubaix states thai grave disorders followed the action of the police in prohibiting a demonstration of textile strikers, who began to molest isolated policemen. When tho latter were reinforced, 800 men and women armed with sharp stones attacked the police with a terrific hail of missiles. The police retired with their faces running with blood.
Finally the police were withdrawn and troops were posted in a cordon round the district. No one is permitted to enter.
Roubaix is an industrial centre near Lille, France, and a short distanco from the Belgian frontier. It has a population of more than 100,000, and woollen manufacturing is one of its industries.
