SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION
The committee of the Sunday School Union met on Thursday. Mr. W. E. Howe, president, was in the chair, and 20 delegates from the city and suburban schools attended. A vote of- sympathy was passed to Mr. J. Pirie, superintendent of Vivian Street Baptist School, whose wife had recently died. It was decided to defer the matter of providing shields for competition amongst schools; it was considered that it would be better for schools to get a fuller knowledge, o£ the project before it was put into force. It; was reported that the classes conducted by the Rev. Bobert and Mrs. Blair had been very successful. The classes started with 31 members, but increased every night until at last 81 had joined. It was considered that very much benefit would accrue to the Sunday schools through the work done by Mr. and Mrs. Blair. Miss A. Stevenson was appointed visitor for the Hutt Valley schools. The president gave an account of a four weeks' visit to the extension schools. He reported that the work in these schools was progressing very well. Some of the old scholars are now acting as teachers. The support of the people in the various districts is very hearty, and good meetings Were held both on Sundays and week days.
