Sir,—ln to-night's issue I notice an account of a meeting of the Presbyterian Assembly in which the Public Questions Committee is still very much worried over art unions, but showered congratulations upon tho united front shown, with the exception of one denomination, by the churches. Now, Sir, as one proud to belon«- to that "excepted denomination, I would like to know whether this "united front" represents all those who at the time of taking a census state their religion as belonging to one or other of the united front or do they just represent those persons that actually attend their services? You will readily note that there is a very bis difference. . . Why not make representation to the hon. the Minister of Internal Affairs to have a vote taken, at the General Election to learn just what the people think of having a State lottery? , Voluntary taxation, I consider, would hurt nobody, and the money instead of going out of our country could' go towards assisting many deserving cases. Australia, a very short time ago, let us see what the' "united front" could do towards raising money •without _ having to resort to the so-called gambling spirit. I trust such a farce will not be staged in this country.
