MIXED WEATHER
TO-DAY'S FORECAST Pair to fine pleasant weather ruled yesterday, under the influence of an anti-cyclone which was covering the Dominion. During last night, however, a depression which moved on to • the Dominion from the Southern Tasman Sea deepened considerably, barometers falling rapidly in tho far South. As a consequence, north to west winds have since freshened, and rain has developed in western districts and in Otago and Southland. Somo heavy falls occurred in'places on tho West Coast and in the high country of the South Island.. Arthur's Pass had 232 points; Okuru, 170 points; and Greymouth 50 points. All tho chief statioas experienced a fine day yesterday. : The forecast is for moderate to strong winds,,chiefly'north-west in Cook Strait and .on part of tho.East Coast; elsewhere, west to south-west; southerlies becoming more general after about 24 hours,1 and increasing. Weather mainly fine in the eastern districts, but elsewhere cloudy, with some rain, and, on the high land, snow;. Bain is also likely to extend to oastern districts to-morrow, temperatures becoming colder.
