DAIRY FACTORY MERGER
Negotiations are in train for the Temuka and Waimate Co-operative Dairy Companies to unite, in', one company.'.ln; a circular letter to. its suppliers, the Temuka company states ' that, after . many years of keen competition for the same supply in the South', Canterbury district, the directors of the .Wa'imate Co-operative Company and those of Temuka have decided to approach the suppliers of the district in a spirit of coioperatioiv with a view to consolidating the position of both companies. The benefits to be derived by the supplier by doing away with over-lapping by cream collection lorries, the probability of ; boundary fixing with other companies in I the vicinity until such time as they may join in this movement, and the lessening of overhead, expenses, will mean a considerable increase in the pay-out, and by co-ordination and consolidation the farmers'interests can be better served. The circular' further' states that, if' the movement igflji.ye.l). support, it will give a lead ■to the. farmers of the whole of South Canterbury, and Jrtie highest possible payout to snppliers will be assured.
