THE MAUI POMARE

PROPOSED SALE

OBJECTION IN SOUTH

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

DUNEDIN, 18th May.

The Dunedin Chamber of Commerce decided to-night to ask the Prime Minister (the Eight Hon. G. W. Forbes) if'reports that the Government is^ prepared to sell the Maui Pomare to private enterprise are correct.

If the reply is in the affirmative the Prime Minister is to be reminded that the vessel was specially designed for trading between Samoa and South Island ports. The proposed sale will be strongly resisted by the chamber, exIcept on the condition that the present service is maintained, and that tenders 'for'the purchase are invited in leading Dominion newspapers.
