TO HELP EDUCATION
A NEW ORGANISATION
The opinion that much good should come from the amalgamation of the Wellington Federation of Educational Associations and the Wellington School Committees' Association is expressed iv. the animal report of the latter body. The amalgamation is to. take place at the annual meeting of the School Committees' Association on Monday evening. The report says that the amalgamation is of paramount importance,,, and should be the means of creating greater interest in educational matters locally, for with a combination of representatives of school committees, home and school or parents' associations, and representatives of the teaching profession, every aspect of educational reform could* be viewed from many angles of thought. ,' . "There is much for the now organisation to do," adds, the report. "Tlio questions of smaller classes, increased capitation, stability of staffing, and definite endeavour to combat any attempt; to reduce the educational services on (ho plea of economy are matters thai; will require constant watching by the new organisation. The association realises that it is necessary to cut down wasteful expenditure, but it is not necessary to cut down essential services. "A definite attempt should be made by the new organisation to create a publicity fund to enable the public _1o be well 'conversant with the many difficulties that confront school committees. Such an organisation, without a. fighting fund, is almost as useless as a ship without a rudder. Bushicrs people do not hesitate to advertise their goods on a large scab, and if the ideals of the. federation are to bo nlacrrt clearly-an rl fully before Hie public to secure their support, and interest, then money must be spent."
