OLD WELLINGTON COLLEGE

(To the Editor.) Sir,—The view of "Old Wellington College" published in "The 'Post", on the 2nd May is misleading. Owing probably to some i manipulation of the negative, the ends o£ the building have been reversed. I entered Wellington College in 1881, and at that time there was a ■western wing to the building, but no eastern wing; the latter was added while I was attending the school. The late Mr. Joseph Mackay was headmaster at that time, and he, his family, and the boarders were accommodated in the western wing o£ the building. In the picture reproduced in your issue of the 2nd, the building appears with an eastern but no western wing.,.. Several ot my contemporaries have confirmed my own, recollections. It seems that the camera can lie after all.—l am, etc., ROBERT J. POPE. [The picture was reproduced from an old print. As the facts are as Mr. Pope states, it is evident that this print was made with the negative reversed in the frame—Ed.]
